Zircon on Diopside York River Skarn Zone, near Bancroft, Ontario, Canada. Collected by Michael and Jay Walter, 1994. This is the really rare species. Almost all are in the 1 to 3 mm size range and only ever noticed due to their strong yellow fluorescence. This is from a single find we made where approximately 20 specimens in the 1 to 4 cm size range were recovered. Because they were so exceptional in quality, purple in color and large, no one initially knew what they were. Nothing like that had been found and nothing like these have been found there since. This piece measures 3.5 x 2.2 x 2 cm and is dominated by and exceptional 2.1 cm doubly-terminated crystal. It is in good condition with a single repair to the big zircon. It is not mounted in the box. $800
