Vesuvianite, Grossular, Diopside     York River Skarn Zone, near Bancroft, Ontario, Canada.  Collected by Michael and Jay Walter. These vesuvianites may not appear overly impressive to those unfamiliar with this long closed location, but they are!  This species is normally only found in crystals the size of grains of salt.  These are up to a cm each, have unusually high luster, and are perfectly formed.  All the crystals, including the cinnamon colored garnets are damage-free.  The piece measures 6.9 x 5.7 x 2.8 cm.  It is the finest example we found in several years of extensive collecting in the mid-1990's.  I have never seen a finer example.  $1,500
