Calcite Empire State Mine, Level 4,047, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York. Collected May 2023. This crystal is from a small pocket found on the 24th of May. It was only a meter, or so, long and produced what I’d consider the finest calcites from anywhere in the Balmat region. It’s too bad that there were only approximately 30 calcites that were recovered that day prior to the pocket being blasted. This one measures 9.1 x 7 x 4 cm. It is a transparent, highly lustrous, light purple crystal. There are some internal fractures, as seen. All the surfaces are glassy and smooth with few modifications or surface features. It is a fine Rossie habit twin that cleaved off the surface it was formed on. Complete on display faces and all sides (other than the base which, again, is cleaved). A couple small rubs but still in excellent condition. $8,000
