Calcite, Hematite, Pyrite Leiping Mine, Leiping, Guiyang County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. This is the same locality that produced these well know "Butterfly" twins over a decade ago. These are from a more recent find in 2017 that produced the same twins, as seen here, but in a very different style. These show phases of growth that begin with calcites coated heavily by a layer of dark hematite and on this a druse of tiny pyrite crystal. Next, an additional layer of clear, high luster calcite formed on the original calcites. They really are something to behold, I think more interesting and aesthetic than the first discovery of these important specimens. This example measures 7.5 x 6 x 5.5 cm. It has numerous twins which include the largest of the crystals. The growth phases are very obvious and there are also clear shard-like areas of secondary calcite growth that are also fully terminated! This is an entirely damage-free specimen except for a rubbed area on one crystal termination on the very edge of the piece. This is not distracting and doesn't take away from the wonderful aesthetics of this piece. This is a great example of what is sure to become classic material. Better than the photos indicate. $395
